a little drizzle never hurt anybody
I've recently come to Sydney, Australia. It's not a bad flight, but absolutely a world away from good ol' Shenzhen.
The people here are closer to my personal vibe. The atmosphere is approximately 17x more chill than my previous city (Shenzhen). I've seen cool street art. I've witnessed people being decently considerate of one another. The food is both filling, AND tasty.
It was a chilly, rainy day today, and I left my rain jacket back in China. I don't mind weathering a little weather, and I was strolling with purpose, so I let the rain fall and kept it moving. Out of the blue, when I least expected it, this guy had the nerve to hold his umbrella up so that I got a few moments' shelter as we waited for the crosswalk to change.
In the grand scheme of things, I know this is the slightest kindness, but damn if it didn't humble me and edify me simultaneously. I take it really personally and told the guy I didn't mind the rain, and am fortunate in that I can go somewhere dry and warm despite it.
Then, we crossed the street, said "so long" and I'll never see that guy again in my life most likely. All this, to merely appreciate small kindness from strangers.
